What We Offer

Kidney Transplantation at Jehangir Hospital

At Jehangir Hospital, we employ cutting-edge technologies and procedures to ensure successful kidney transplantation. The advanced techniques include:Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) Matching: This genetic test determines whether the donor and recipient share a compatible set of DNA. Proper HLA matching can significantly reduce the risk of transplant rejection, ensuring the recipient's body accepts the donor's kidney.

Cytotoxic Crossmatching: This laboratory test assesses whether the recipient’s immune system will reject the donor's kidney. By mixing and testing the recipient's and donor's blood samples, we can predict and prevent potential rejection.Immunosuppressive Medication: Even with successful HLA matching and crossmatching, patients must take immunosuppressive medicines to prevent organ rejection. These medications help the recipient's immune system accept the donor organ while reducing the risk of infection.

Jehangir Hospital excels in performing ‘ABO’ incompatible transplants, where the recipient and donor have different blood groups, with a high success rate. Additionally, patients have the option of SWAP (Donor Exchange) transplants. Our multidisciplinary team, comprising physicians, surgeons, transplant coordinators, dieticians, pharmacists, social workers, and nurses, works collaboratively to ensure the best outcomes for our patients. The Hospital has pioneered significant advancements in transplant procedures. In 2008, Jehangir Hospital facilitated the first SWAP transplant in the city, followed by the first ABO incompatible transplant in 2018. Over the past years, hospital has consistently achieved excellent results with ABO incompatible transplants and is also actively involved in the cadaver donation programme, contributing to our renowned reputation in transplantation.

Like any medical procedure, there are specific protocols to follow before the transplantation and certain risks involved. The level of risk varies depending on whether the procedure is a full or partial corneal transplant. Our team follows all protocols to ensure that your experience, from pre-operation to post-operation healing, is as smooth as possible and is closely monitored by our world-class specialists.
