Jehangir Hospital has assembled a team of seasoned pulmonologists, respiratory therapists, and support staff dedicated to delivering unmatched care in the realm of respiratory medicine.

Understanding that children deserve specialised care tailored to their unique needs, especially concerning respiratory health, our Pulmonology Unit takes pride in offering comprehensive and personalised care for paediatric patients. Collaborating closely with paediatricians and paediatric pulmonologists, our team provides age-appropriate diagnostic evaluations for children, from specialised paediatric pulmonary function testing to gentle bronchoscopy procedures, ensuring accurate assessments while prioritising the comfort and well-being of young patients.

What We Offer

Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT): Our advanced PFT lab, outfitted with cutting-edge technology, meticulously assesses lung function with precision and accuracy. From spirometry to lung volume measurements and diffusion capacity testing, our expert respiratory therapists utilise the latest techniques to evaluate pulmonary function and
diagnose conditions such as asthma, COPD, and restrictive lung diseases.

Pulmonary Function Tests are non-invasive assessments that demonstrate how well the lungs are functioning. The tests measure lung volume, capacity, flow rates, and gas exchange. This information can assist doctors in diagnosing and determining the treatment of certain lung conditions. It is a comprehensive evaluation of the respiratory system, which includes patient history, physical examinations, and tests of pulmonary function. The primary purpose of pulmonary function testing is to identify the severity of pulmonary impairment.

Pulmonary Function Tests typically take approximately 15 minutes to complete. The Pulmonology department at Jehangir hospital is equipped with Forced Oscillometry Technique for PFT. The forced oscillation technique (FOT) is a non-invasive method used to
measure respiratory mechanics. FOT employs small-amplitude pressure oscillations superimposed on normal breathing and has the advantage over conventional lung function techniques as it does not require the performance of respiratory manoeuvres. This technique can be utilised in children and elderly frail people to diagnose respiratory disease. Jehangir
Hospital is one of the few hospitals in Pune to offer this service.

Imaging Services: Leveraging advanced imaging capabilities encompassing chest X-rays,
computed tomography (CT) scans, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), we provide detailed insights into the structure and function of the respiratory system. Whether detecting pulmonary nodules, evaluating airway abnormalities, or assessing the extent of lung disease, our radiology team delivers high-quality imaging solutions to support accurate diagnosis and
treatment planning.

Bronchoscopy: Within our dedicated bronchoscopy suite, a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are conducted to investigate and manage respiratory disorders. Employing flexible and rigid bronchoscopy techniques, our skilled pulmonologists visualise the airways, obtain tissue samples for biopsy, remove foreign bodies, and perform
interventions such as bronchial stenting and bronchial thermoplasty.

Nidra - Sleep Studies Clinic: According to a recent study conducted by AIIMS, New Delhi,
obstructive sleep apnoea and other sleep disorders are increasing in India. The number of Indians suffering from obstructive sleep apnoea could be as high as 104 million,. According to the researchers, who analysed seven studies conducted over the past two decades from different parts of the country, 11% of Indian adults suffer from OSA, with men at higher risk (13%) compared to
women (5%). At Jehangir Hospital, we perform Level I studies to diagnose and treat this condition. Level I sleep studies, or polysomnography, involve overnight testing in a sleep laboratory with a trained technician in attendance. Level I polysomnography is considered the gold standard for this.

Through our comprehensive sleep medicine program, polysomnography and home sleep apnea testing are conducted to evaluate sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea, and insomnia. Our multidisciplinary team of sleep specialists, respiratory therapists, and technologists collaboratively diagnose and manage sleep-related breathing disorders, thereby enhancing patients' quality of life and overall well-being. We also offer immunotherapy against allergens in selected patients providing curative treatment to their allergy.

Allergy Testing: In collaboration with our allergists and immunologists, we offer allergy testing services to identify respiratory allergens and sensitivities contributing to conditions such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, and sinusitis. From skin prick tests to blood tests for specific IgE antibodies, our comprehensive allergy testing panel enables targeted allergen avoidance strategies and personalised treatment plans.

EBUS: EBUS ( ultrasound) bronchoscopy is a procedure used to diagnose different types of lung disorders, including inflammation, infections or cancer. The EBUS scope has a video camera with an ultrasound probe attached to create a local images of your lungs and nearby lymph nodes in order to accurately locate and evaluate areas seen on x-rays
or scans that need a closer look.
