Arthroscopy (also called Arthroscopic surgery) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which a physical examination of the interior of a joint is performed using an Arthroscope. Arthroscope is a type of endoscope that is inserted into the joint through a small incision.
Arthroscopic procedures can be performed either to evaluate or to treat many orthopaedic conditions including trimming damaged cartilage, torn floating cartilage, ACL reconstruction and torn surface cartilage.
In Arthroscopy, the joint does not have to be surgically opened and therefore is advantageous as compared to open surgery. An Arthroscopy is done via two small 5 mm incisions - one for the Arthroscope and another for the surgical instruments. This procedure is less traumatic to the connective tissue and thus reduces recovery time of the patient.
Arthroscopy is beneficial for sportsmen and athletes, whose joints and elbows suffer a great amount of wear and tear.
The hospital offers the following Arthroscopy procedures:
Arthroscopy of the knee, hip, ankle, wrist, elbow & shoulders
