Bronchoscopy allows our doctor to make an internal examination of the patient's airway to detect any abnormality e.g. foreign bodies, bleeding, tumours or inflammation. The doctor may either use a rigid bronchoscope or a flexible bronchoscope.

| At Jehangir, doctors use flexible bio-optic bronchoscope. During the procedure, the patient is awake, but slightly sedated. The doctor then passes this flexible scope through the mouth into the lungs, and using a small instrument, called a biopsy forceps, collects several small tissue samples or biopsies. |
| These biopsies, obtained by bronchoscopy, are then processed and examined under a microscope. Bronchoscopy is safe and is often done on an outpatient basis. |
