Brain - Interventional Neuroradiology |
| |
| |
We offer non – surgical option for detection and treatment of disorders of the blood vessels of the brain, head and neck (Central Nervous System). Known as Interventional Neuroradiology, this avoids the risks and after effects of major open surgery in this region of the human body. |
| |
Treatment for Paralytic Stroke by Intra-arterial thrombolysis: This technology now allows us to reverse certain cases of paralysis provided the patient is brought to the hospital in time following a Brain Stroke (acute attack of paralysis). |
| |
Treatment for brain aneurysms: this is a ballooning of a blood vessel in the brain, which may lead to rupturing of the vessel wall and hemorrhage leading to death
We offer two common treatment options for a ruptured brain aneurysm.
| |
| |
Surgical clipping to close off an aneurysm, which requires major open surgery of the
brain
Endovascular coiling is the latest mimimally invasive procedure in which, our surgeon inserts
a narrow catheter into a blood vessel in the groin, and threads it through the body to the aneurysm. He then uses a guide wire to push a soft platinum wire through the catheter and into the aneurysm. The wire coils up inside the aneurysm, disrupts the blood flow and causes blood to clot. This clotting essentially seals off the aneurysm from the blood vessel. This completely avoids any incision on the head or face. |

Treatment for blocked brain vessels leading to uncontrolled fits• |
| We offer Angioplasty & Stenting of narrowed carotid & intracranial blood vessels. |
| On 24th April 2004, the first successful case of 'Stenting of the Brain' in India was performed at Jehangir Hospital. |
| Patient had severe narrowing of a major vessel supplying most of the forebrain, which was opened up by putting in a stent measuring 2.5mmx18mm. |
| Treatment of malformations of the blood vessels in the brain (AVM): An AVM is an abnormal tangle of blood vessels in the brain for which we offer Endovascular Embolization as one of the options. |
| You may not know you have a brain AVM until you experience symptoms such as severe headaches, seizures or noises in the ear. In serious cases, the blood vessels rupture, causing bleeding in the brain (hemorrhage). |
| Endovascular embolization |
| In this procedure small particles of a glue-like substance are injected to block the vessel and reduce blood flow into the AVM. The glue is introduced using a long, thin tube called a catheter, which is inserted into a leg artery and threaded through the body to the brain arteries feeding the AVM. |
