Ayurvedic Concepts and Diet for Heart Care

A kapha dosha heart patient needs to be fed the powdered bark of the arjuna mixed with honey or pippali powder.

Medicines like Hridayarnava rasa and Prabhakara vati can be taken in lieu of arjuna medicines. Mrigamadasava can be given in case of a severe heart attack.
Diet for Heart Care
As per conventional wisdom, fatty foods are detrimental to health. However, as per Ayurvedic scriptures, there are certain sources of fats that are beneficial to the heart and must be considered as a part of the diet. It is important to keep in mind that fat-free diets are absolutely destructive to the body as it prevents the assimilation of vitamins A, D, E and K. Fats that are polyunsaturated or monounsaturated enhance the well-being of the heart. These fats are present in mustard oil, flaxseed oil, olive oil, groundnut oil, ghee and sesame oil. It should be ensured that such fats do not constitute more than 15 per cent of your total food requirement. A heart patient must avoid stimulants like tea, alcohol, coffee and chocolates.
